Your Favorite Glossier Cleanser Is a Bar of Soap Now, Too

Glossier

Every so often, a product comes along that earns an almost-no-questions-asked spot on our wishlists. Take, for instance, the new millennial *and*Gen Z-approved offering from Glossier. It expands on an already cult-favorite product (check) and is released (not technically connected but totally connected) the week after a new Olivia Rodrigo album (double check). In short, it’s a teenage—or teenage at heart—dream come true.

Seven years after their original Milky Jelly gel-cream cleanser was first released, Glossier is growing their beloved—and tightly knit—face wash family with a new product for your whole body: the Milky Jelly Cleansing Bar ($18).

Simple (what’s more classic than a bar of soap?) yet brilliant, the new launch brings the tried-and-loved gentle cleanser to “an ergonomically-designed bar for the face and body,” according to the brand. The new format also gives you a good excuse to pack less liquids on vacation… and make use of that super-cute soap dish you have lying around.

From its inspiration to its soothing ingredients, read on for everything to know about the new launch.

The Inspiration

When formulating the new Milky Jelly Cleansing Bar, Glossier dared to ask the real question: How do we make Milky Jelly even better (i.e., ready to use while singing along to Guts in the shower)?

According to the brand’s Instagram, the idea was born in the company’s Slack channel, where Global Supply Management and Logistics manager Ali Rice originally pitched the idea for Milky Jelly-in-a-bar: “I use a face wash on my chest and back after working out,” the employee explained in the instant message. “Have we ever [considered] a Milky Jelly face bar?”

Thus, another beloved Glossier product was born. “Now you can have this fan-favorite on your sink and in your shower,” the brand shared on Instagram.

The Formula

Like the OG Milky Jelly, five skin conditioners (including allantoin to soothe, shea butter to boost moisture, sodium hyaluronate, provitamin B5, and betaine) work together to combat dryness and care for the skin’s moisture barrier. Another key ingredient? Chamomile extract calms, soothes, and provides antioxidant benefits to your skin while visibly evening your complexion.

Designed with the skin’s natural pH in mind, Milky Jelly Cleansing Bar is fragrance-free, soap-free, and gentle as can be for the ultra-sensitive among us. According to the brand, it leaves skin feeling hydrated, soft, and comfortable—never stripped or tight.

How to Use It

Like your favorite bar soap, you’ll want to start by working this little workhorse into a lather. Then, gently massage the product onto wet skin (you can use it on your face and body!) while learning the lyrics to “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl.” Rinse thoroughly.
