The 9 Best Natural Looking False Lashes of 2023, Tested and Reviewed

buuk.top / Jaclyn Mastropasqua

False eyelashes amplify eyes like nothing else. A good pair of lashes are easy to apply and manipulate, should you need to fit to your eye. Once there, the best false eyelashes stay put until its time to take them off. Despite all the options out there, it can be hard to find a pair that can do it all.

If you’re after a more subtle, natural look, the right application is key. Consider individuals or bundles, which you can apply strategically. Constance Mack Latham, a lash and brow artist tells buuk.top that full strip lashes can also appear natural, but youll need to pay close attention to the weft. “The thinner the weft, the lighter the lash will be, which ultimately gives you the most natural look, regardless of the length chosen,” she says.

To help you make the best decision, our team tested over 40 pairs of false eyelashes at our in-house Lab in New York and in our own bathrooms. We tried some of the top-rated false eyelashes out there, evaluating each on ease of application, natural feel, and ability to stay put. Our team then combined these results with our own research of fan-favorite false eyelashes, plus a professional esthetician and multiple professional makeup artists reviewed our picks and gave their input. Our team ranked each lash between 1 and 5 (5 being the best), and we rounded up the best of the best. Enjoy our top 9 natural-looking eyelash picks.

What We Dont Like

Styles sell out quickly

This style earned our top spot because of its comfortability, accessibility, and resilience. Yes, the silhouette is dramatic, but in a believable way - no wonky lashes here - so if you prefer something more conservative, this won’t push the boundaries too hard. Thanks in part to the structure of the band. The black band is sturdy enough to hold the lash shape yet thin enough to blend into your lash line even without eyeliner. Post removal, you can pack these back into the original packaging and use them again the next day. If you still aren’t convinced, these lashes were the easiest to apply of any on this list even for lash newbies. Plus at under $10, these are a perfect starter set. The best part? This comes in multiple styles and silhouettes, so if you do not love ‘Minx’ other options are available.

Be warned: these styles sell out fast, so if you are looking to take one home, keep checking their website.

What We Dont Like

The band could be a little wider

Lashes can be polarizing; some like more dramatic styles and some prefer something more natural, but half lashes provide a happy medium. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The lightweight feel, multiple wears, ease of application, versatile style, and more were part of the reasons this style made the top of the list. We recommend keeping a black liquid eyeliner on standby to help blend the falsies into your natural lash. After application, we forgot we were wearing this lash, that is until we caught a glance in the mirror. Also nice: these babies hold their shape, so keep them on hand for multiple wears.

We wish the band was wider for a tad stronger hold, but regardless, these did stay on all day long.

What We Dont Like

Don’t keep their shape as well

While multi-colored lashes are becoming more common, they are still pretty rare, and this black and brown layered lash blends into natural lashes better than anything else we have seen or tried. Outside of this style, were fans of this chic line of lashes from Jenna Lyons and Troi Ollivierre, made up of multiple styles based on face shape and aesthetic. All lashes are featherweight, made of nylon, and artfully designed. Their lashes are on the higher end, but their website has try-on technology, so you can see how it looks before buying. This style in particular is long, flirty, and blends right into your lash line for a doe-eyed look in seconds.

Unfortunately, the ultra-flexible band doesn’t hold the shape of the lash that well, so try to be extra careful when removing it to maximize uses.

What We Dont Like

The band is weak

If you are new to false lashes, the drugstore is the best place to find your first pair. KISS is a drugstore staple and for good reason. Their accessible lashes work well for trial and error especially if it’s your first time applying. The wispy style enhances your natural lashes without overpowering them. If you are looking for something discreet, add to cart. Beyond just the price point, we found these lashes were comfortable even after consecutive hours of wear.

The thin band is great for blending into lashes but makes application a tad more difficult, and it is tougher for the lashes to maintain their shape. However, at $9 for five pairs, you don’t need to maximize each wear.

What We Dont Like

We can’t think of anything we do not like

The struggle of applying false eyelashes mixed with uncomfortable wear prevents many people from wearing the falsies every day. Doe Beauty is ready to change that. Founder, Jason Wong decided to create the brand after watching his girlfriend struggle to apply her false eyelashes. He quickly realized the world of falsies was not inclusive of every eye shape. We love the Fairy Dust style for how seamlessly it blends into natural lashes, but if the style isn’t for you, you can take a quiz on their website to find one that suits your preference and eye shape. Post application, the lashes feel like a few coats of mascara rather than hefty extensions, and the band are easy to adjust if things start to look wonky.

In fact, these lashes were so comfy, we couldn’t find a thing we didn’t like about them.

What We Dont Like

A little difficult to apply

False lashes are too often treated as a single-use product which is not only bad for your wallet, but it is also bad for the environment. These natural-looking falsies cost more upfront but are designed to last for 20-plus wears. Beyond that, the packaging is fully recyclable and free from plastic. Light and fluttery, these have the added benefit of working with pretty much any and every eye shape, so there’s never a need to cut or trim them. The subtly flared edges add a very natural-looking curl and definition, too. Latham is also a fan, adding that they’re also very easy to apply, and glue keeps them in place until its time to take them off.

The width of the lashes makes it difficult to grip when applying especially for inexperienced hands, but once you get the hang of it, they blend in well.

What We Dont Like

Application can be challenging

While this pick may be on the pricier side, as far as kits go, this one has everything you need to create a fluttery, full lash line. Our team was stalled at first due to the unique application process. For starters, these lashes are applied underneath the lash rather than on top and use a powerful bonding agent (included) rather than traditional glue. But once they are on your lashes, these look like expertly applied lash extensions without recurring appointments. Plus, they are meant to last for a week rather than just a day, but if you need to remove them, their pre-cleanse remover will melt away the bond in a jiff.

Beyond just our team, experts also love this option. “This kit is amazing and basically lets you be your own lash tech right in your own home,” says Latham of another one of her top picks. “The bonding agent used is also a plus for me because it nourishes and protects your natural lash,” she adds. It’s definitely a bit pricey, and once you’ve mastered application, the result is possibly the most natural we’ve ever seen.

Remember, these are different from traditional falsies and require a different application style. Expect a learning curve when trying them out for the first time.

Made of human hair

No matter whether it’s your first foray into falsies or you’re just after the most natural look possible, opting for individuals rather than a full strip is the way to go. They’re also the easiest to apply—no measuring or trimming required - they just take a bit longer. Just pop as many of these featherweight clusters wherever you want along the lash line; they’re great on the outer corner for a fluttery effect or can be easily placed wherever your lashes may look a little sparse. Either way, you get a nearly undetectable boost of length, volume, and beautiful definition.

For those who have sensitive eyes and perhaps can’t tolerate lash glue (the adhesives used can be irritating for many), magnetic lashes offer an awesome alternative. How they work: Your natural lashes get sandwiched in between two layers of lashes that are attached via a tiny magnetic strip. These from Ardell are a fave because they’re cut slightly shorter to add more definition in the mid to outer eye area. They may take a little time to get the hang of this new method of application, however, once you get the hang of it, you can apply in a snap…literally.

They are made from human hair, so if that makes you feel uncomfortable, these may not be for you.

Final Verdict

Our best overall pick, ColourPop Falsies Faux Lashes in Minx is easy to apply, inexpensive, blends nicely into your lashes, and feels comfortable on your eyes. The LoveSeen Trio was a close runner-up for its comfy nylon band and ultra-lightweight feel. For the most bang for your buck, consider KISS So Wispy False Eyelashes, a multi-pack of five lightweight pairs that look and feel natural.

What to Look For in Natural-Looking False Lashes

Weight

If you’re a first-timer or newbie lash user, don’t go for a super heavy full strip of lashes. Opt for lighter, small lashes (or sections of them) that won’t weigh down your lashes or feel uncomfortable. To make application even easier, Hernandez advises bending the lash in half while the glue is drying to soften it and tilting your head to look down into a mirror for the best visibility. The LoveSeen Triolashes, for example, are really lightweight and are a joy to wear.

Shape

The shape of your eyes is also an important detail to remember when purchasing lashes. For example, if your eyes are hooded, go for lash strips that are longer in the middle to help open up the eyes. If your eyes are round, opt for curly, more voluminous lashes, like the Lilly Lashes Faux Mink Dreamy Half Lashes to accentuate the outer corners.

Details

Little details like band color are crucial for having your lashes look the most natural. A nude or transparent band color will look more natural, whereas a black band color will add some more definition to your eyes. The Ardell Professional Magnetic Lash Accents 001, for example, are magnetic and blend right into the lash line. Regardless of which color you choose, if you want your lashes to look even more natural, Hernandez advises to “camouflage the lash band by applying black gel or liquid liner.”

FAQ
How do you apply false eyelashes?

The correct way to apply false eyelashes depends on which type you’re using. For cluster lashes (small gatherings of a few lash hairs), makeup artist Matin recommends wiggling lash glue right alongside the root of your lashes, then setting the cluster lash on top and gently pressing to fuse it. For individual lashes, makeup artist Lauren Andersen says knot-free versions create a more natural look, and you only need one or two on the outer corners to provide more extension. Strip lashes are one of the easiest methods, as it gives you a full set of volume in just one step—you can use the back of your hand as a surface for applying the glue, and be sure to check beforehand whether you need to cut the lash to better fit your eye. With all of these, don’t be afraid to adjust your lashes as the glue is drying, and finish the process with a final coat of mascara to blend your natural lashes with the false ones you’ve applied.

How do you remove false eyelashes?

MG Hair and Makeup founder Megan Garmers explains that the process of removing false lashes applied with an adhesive glue is easy. “Just gently tug on the inner corner of the lash (being careful not to tug your own real lashes!) while holding down your eyelid with another finger/hand,” she explains. “You can also get the adhesive started by applying an oil-based makeup remover to the lash line with a cotton swab and gently rubbing it against the lash line where the adhesive is.”

Can you reuse false eyelashes?

Yes! It’s fine to reuse false eyelashes, as long as you clean them properly. However, Garmers says you should never reuse someone else’s lashes, and makeup artists should always use a new strip on each client. That being said, if you gently remove glue from your lashes using tweezers before cleansing with oil-free makeup remover, rinsing it off with a tiny bit of water, and sanitizing with alcohol before letting them air dry, your false lashes should be good to go for your next night out.

How long do false eyelashes last?

“Generally, false lashes last one to two days, depending on if you touch your eyes a lot and/or apply the proper amount of adhesive,” Garmers explains. “Just make sure you are still removing your makeup even if you want to keep your lashes on for more than one day.”

How can you make false lashes last longer?

To make your lashes last longer, celebrity makeup artist Melissa Hernandez suggests removing them from the trap by pressing your thumb in the center of the lash and gently dragging it downwards."This technique helps maintain the shape of the lash and prevents it from tearing."

How We Researched & Tested

To compile this list, our team of editors and contributors spent hours researching the best products on the market in this category, evaluating their key features—like ingredients, shade range, or design—in addition to reviews from customers and other trusted sources. Our team also incorporated their own personal experiences testing products in their own lives. We then used these insights from our research and testing to assign a star rating from one to five (five being the best; one being the worst) to certain products on the list.

Why Trust buuk.top

buuk.top contributor Melanie Rud has over a decade of experience in the beauty industry, writing for some of the biggest magazines and websites out there. Our team then combined these results with our own research of fan-favorites to create this list.
