We put Too Faceds Brow Wig Eyebrow Gel to the test after receiving a complimentary sample from the brand. Keep reading for our full product review.

For me, a thick, fluffy brow look is always appropriate. So when I discovered the Too Faced Brow Wig Eyebrow Gel, I immediately knew that this was a product I wanted to check out. A product loyalist to a fault when it comes to brow products, I was curious to find out if this gel would become a staple in my brow routine.

With a formula that helps to shape, groom, and thicken brows with hair-like fibers, how does this product actually work, and is it worth trying? Keep reading for my honest, full review.

Too Faced Brow Wig

Best for: Creating fuller, fluffier brows

Potential allergens:Potassium sorbate

Price: $23

Shade Range: Four shades

Whats Included: Product only

About the brand: Created in 1998 by Jeremy Johnson and Jerrod Blandino, Too Faced Cosmetics has always aimed to provide people with quality products that evoke a sense of fun. With innovative formulas and cruelty-free products, Too Faced encourages all customers to embrace their identities and express themselves with makeup.

About My Brows: Full, but with sparse areas

My eyebrows are among my favorite features. My brow hair is thin and has an ashy brown color, so I always match my brow pencil with the true color of my brows instead of my hair color. I like using gel, but I don’t really need one to keep my brows in place. Even though they’re not the fullest, I follow the natural shape of my eyebrows when filling them in instead of trying to overcorrect their shape. I focus on making my brows look fuller overall, and do so by adding brow pencil to areas that are more sparse. The front half of my brows don’t require much filling in, but the tails of my brows do, so I always add color there instead of adding product to the entire area. Right now, I use the Precisely, My Brow Pencil by Benefit Cosmetics. I brush my eyebrow hair upward, create an outline for the arches and tails of my brows, and use the pencil to color in my outline.

I was excited to try Brow Wig because I love the fluffy brow aesthetic—any product that can add volume, color, and hold to my brows is one I’m open to trying. For a little over three weeks, I used Brow Wig alone and alongside my brow pencil to get a feel for the product.

How to Apply: Comb through brow hair in an upward motion

Too Faced specifies two ways that Brow Wig can be used: The first method is to brush the product onto your brows in an upward motion, starting from the front of your eyebrows. Once you reach the arch, the brand suggests brushing the hairs to the side in order to lay them flat.

The second method is to use the tip of the applicator to place the gel directly onto your skin for coverage—this is especially helpful for anyone with sparse brows or patchy areas. Once the product has been applied, use the applicator to blend it through your eyebrows. When I used Brow Wig with my eyebrow pencil, I opted for the first application method, combing the gel through my eyebrows. When I wore the product by itself, I applied the gel directly onto my skin and blended it through my eyebrows with the applicator.

The Results: Naturally fuller brows with great hold

Khera Alexander / buuk.top

The first few times I used Brow Wig, I was content with how it looked alongside my brow pencil. My eyebrows appeared manicured without looking too artificial, and the gel gave my brows a nice hold without looking flaky or feeling crunchy. Though I thought the gel was a decent product, I didn’t notice much of a difference. (Since I already had another product in my eyebrows, I already figured seeing noticeable results would be a bit challenging.)

The next several times I used Brow Wig, I abandoned my brow pencil completely to see what this product was actually about. My brows had the same volume I usually get with my brow pencil, except each hair looked thicker and more defined, and the gel filled in the patchier areas of my eyebrows. I had to use a light hand when applying the product to my skin, carefully putting the gel on and combing it through—a heavier hand made the gel look patchy on my skin. I was able to wear the gel in different environments without it smudging or fading when my forehead became oily as well.

The fibers in this product are definitely to thank for my brow’s volume and definition: Too Faced created a formula that mimics the look of hair with gel fibers that grab onto eyebrows and skin to create more density, and the product’s applicator made the application process really straightforward.

Though Brow Wig is a really good product, it’s not for me, and I wouldn’t consider it essential to my routine. When used with my brow pencil, it helped to keep my eyebrows structured and in place. Used by itself, I found the color I used (Medium Brown) to be darker than what I’m used to since my eyebrows are ashier in tone. Currently, there are four shades of Brow Wig; the shade darker than the one I used would be too deep, and the shade lighter would be too light for me. An extended shade range would be nice to see, and more options would help give people the ability to find a color that works perfectly for their eyebrows.

The Value: Similar to the competition

Brow Wig is priced at $23 for 5.5 ml of product. Most prestige brow gels are priced in the same range for the same amount of product or less. Since I’m not a huge brow gel person, $23 for 5.5 ml seems overpriced to me, but someone who uses a gel regularly might think differently. The product keeps eyebrows in place, but it also helps create the look of additional brow hair—I think a brow gel fan will find value in that, and considering how little product you need to achieve fuller brows, Brow Wig will last for a couple of months before it runs out, too.

Similar Products: You have options

Kosas Air Brow Tinted Clean Volumizing Eyebrow Gel: If you need a product that offers more shade options, the Tinted Clean Volumizing Eyebrow Gel by Kosas ($22) is a great place to start. With 10 tinted shades and a clear version, this vegan gel has plant-based fibers that will volumize your eyebrows while conditioning and supporting their overall health.

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow+ Tinted Volumizing Eyebrow Gel: A major player in the brow gel category, Benefit Cosmeticss Gimme Brow+ Tinted Volumizing Eyebrow Gel ($24) gets the job done with 10 flexible shades to choose from. Water-resistant and long-wearing, this gel tints, volumizes, and shapes brows effortlessly.

Final Verdict

While the Too Faced Brow Wig Eyebrow Gel definitely impressed me in terms of performance, a wider shade range with a variety of undertones could take this product from good to great. If you’re not as particular about your eyebrow gel color as I am, you’ll be able to get fuller, defined brows from one of the four shades currently available.
